We are RL Concetti.

We are RL Concetti.

I know what you’re wondering,
“What does it even mean?!?!”
It’s our fancy way of saying
Rachel and Lauren Concepts in short form Italian.
We believe that everything we do and say and create should say something.  This is our way to show our love and respect for all things Italian.

Now that you know what our name means, let’s get down to business.

We are Rachel and Lauren, there’s a few things you should know about us.

We believe in Detroit. We believe in design. We believe in people, their dreams, their stories, their grit.  We believe that if we bring these things together we create a trifecta of awesome.  We also believe in rap music, karma, the perfect craft cocktail and intense hospitality but that’s neither here nor there.

What you really care about is what we can do for you.  Just like Detroit we are gritty, we are passionate and we love to get down to work.  We not only see the diamond in the rough, but we are pumped about it.  We take our Detroit grit and apply it to any project we take on even if it is outside of our beloved city.

Our passion is helping people express themselves with their spaces.  We aren’t about making your interior pretty (although that’s often a by product) we are about having your space say something, feel something, mean something.

Whether that space is your home and you want it to have a certain energy to it — happiness, calm, energetic, bold, quiet, safety.

Or it’s your restaurant and you are saying something with your food.  We’ll make sure that your design is putting out that same message.  Your space will be memorable, and exciting.  Together your craft and our craft will say something.  We won’t stop until we get it right.  Cause we’re from Detroit.

We are so lucky to do what we love every day.  Being a part of the revitalization of this beautiful, strong, passionate city of creatives is our dream come true.  Creating beautiful, meaningful spaces in the city we love, alongside each other is nothing short of amazing.

I am passionate, fierce and full of more drive than I know what to do with sometimes.. My grandparents helped me find my creativity. They encouraged me to paint, and make and dance and change my world, because we are all bigger and braver and more beautiful than we realize. I know that I’m making them proud every time I create a space

My dogs are like my children.  I sometimes, maybe all the time, cry when I watch reality TV in which people chase their dreams. I’m also intensely focused and determined once I set my mind to something.  It’s not okay to be just good at something.  I want to be my very best self.  I’ve got a BFA in Interior Design with a minor in Art History .  I decided that Interior Design was my calling at 16 and haven’t wavered since.

I believe in giving back to our community and the young people in it.  I have spent years teaching Color Guard  here in Detroit because I believe in the future of our city.  I love to help young women them find  themselves, their own inner strength, their own grit their own passion. I love Detroit and everything it stands for and believe that we are what make it great.  You and me and all the people taking big risks, following our passions and creating here.  I’m so excited to get to know you, and watch you follow your passion. I’d loving love nothing more than to be a part of that journey.

When I was 3 I started telling my mom to move the furniture around in our house.  Because she’s amazing she actually listened and my career in Interior Design began. Okay so maybe my career hadn’t begun yet but my passion was fuelled from a shockingly young age.  I’ve always known how to read the energy in the room.  Always felt like a room was talking to me.  I just don’t often admit it… shhhh pretend no ones reading this.

Ahem… so I have a BA in Interior Design with a minor in Art History.  I actually started my career in Interior Design just over 7 years ago, even though I like to count my early living room arrangements I figured you might not.

In my mind the very best days are spent in Paris, Rome or Barcelona, (I’m not picky) drinking a bottle of wine with good friends and getting lost in the architecture.  I feel like there’s not much better than soaking up another culture and learning all we can from it.  Except maybe an early morning kickboxing class to get my mind right.  That’s also up there for me.  I’m a complex soul that’s for sure.  I love great music, art and cheese like no other, but I’m also an excel spreadsheet champion with a ridiculous love for the details and a passion for Astrology.  It’s likely that I’ll ask if you know your rising sign so have your birth time ready!

Jackie L. Schweiger

Associate Designer

It was that first drawing book my grandparents gave me that truly sparked my desire to go down the
creative path. I was able to express myself, and my heart was hooked. Although I loved Art in school, I
always enjoyed Science. Shocker that an Interior Designer would fall in love with both right and left brain
subjects!?
Anyhow, I went to Michigan State and got my BA in Communication Sciences and Disorders to follow my
passion of helping others. Don’t get me wrong, I’m totally grateful for the education, however the inner
creativity in me wasn’t able to shine, and I knew I would be much happier helping others in another way.
So, I packed up my life and went and got my MS in Interior Design at Florida State. I wanted to be a part
of something that would allow me to work with people… helping them to express themselves and enrich
their lives through design. I can finally say that besides my deep love for my dogs, my family and of
course the Spartans, I found my true passion in design. I’m excited to be home, working in a position
where I can help the community bring Detroit back to it’s glory.

Alecia J. Hlebchuk

Junior Designer

Growing up my younger brother and I would communicate almost exclusively through movie quotes and
facial expressions. This had a huge impact on my sense of humor and interests, to the point that and I
used to think my dream job would be designing movie sets and props. For now however, I am much more
interested in designing real backdrops for actual people to live out their own complicated and interesting
stories. My strongest design strength has always been the ability to remix the usual associations and
create something unexpected. It has been an incredible privilege to work in Detroit, a city that has so
much to offer, and whose future is sure to be wonderfully unexpected with a powerhouse of talented
designers like RL Concetti behind it.

Bachelor of Arts – Fine Arts from University of Michigan, Ann Arbor

Andrea C. Spohn

Engagement Coordinator

Surrounding myself with good conversation, new faces, and all things Detroit (of course over a bottle of
wine) is my idea of the perfect night. I gravitate towards creatives who embrace the entrepreneurial
mindset, yet know that we’re always stronger together. Not to gloat but I have to say I’m pretty pumped
that I have been blessed with the opportunity to work with some of the world’s most amazing brands. After
I received my BA in Business Administration specializing in marketing and advertising, I worked as a
project manager in Chicago. Who doesn’t love the Windy City right!? But at the end of the day, I couldn’t
resist being back in my hometown to watch Detroit flourish. Connecting with people makes my soul happy
and working alongside ladies who value empathy as much as I do, solidifies I made the perfect move.
Let’s all work together to create something beautiful and beneficial…perhaps over some great appetizers
and the perfect Detroit craft cocktail.

Super Smart Number Person

I love numbers, they just make sense.  I’ve been known to keep a calculator on my night side table.  Okay maybe not, but that would be something right?  Sometimes I wonder if I was a mermaid in a past life.  I love to swim but the desert is my happy place, I think there’s room for both.  I believe contrast is needed in every situation, and that a good netflix binge can solve almost any of life’s woes.
